Anyone can make
Kano is a computing company that empowers everyone to create technology. The world is full of devices. But many of us simply swipe, tap, swipe. Only 1% of 1% of 1% know how they work, how to make them do something new. With computers you build, coding, and creativity we open up machines. Make them simple, and fun. So anyone can create, not just consume technology. Anyone can take control. Anyone can shape the world. Anyone can make.
Since launching the first ever build-it-yourself computer, the Computer Kit, in 2014 the Kano community have created and shared more than a million pieces of art, games, music, apps, and more to Kano World - described by WIRED as “the GitHub for kids.”
Based in London and Austin, we’ve collaborated with Disney, Warner Brothers, and major musical artists to combine our making, learning, and playing approach to classic characters and heroic journeys. We created the first-ever Harry Potter wand you can use to create your own magic. Most recently, Kano joined forces with Microsoft to create a powerful, transparent, affordable, and modular Windows computer – the Kano PC, made to bring creativity, and collaboration to the classroom and home.
Kano has been awarded Red Dot, Cannes Gold Lion, and Innovation by Design Awards, and more. In 2019, Fast Company magazine selected Kano as the second-most innovative company in consumer electronics worldwide - and the 24th most innovative overall.
