Hello. There are many great challenges in the Harry Potter Kano Coding Kit. But did you know you can always go back to any challenge, and remix it to make it even better? By adding new objects, sounds, logic, ideas.
Here’s a short project that re-creates a classic scene from Harry Potter, and adds the Whomping Willow to the Control the Flying Car challenge.
Start the Control the Flying Car challenge. You'll find it by the Whomping Willow.
Complete the challenge, following the simple steps. It should look like this:
Now, lets make something new. Start by deleting the red If statement blocks, so the car can be knocked upside-down.
And change some numbers. Change Object: set size to 40, and the force strength to 20. What has happened?
Now, time to add the Whomping Willow. Grab the Object: create block and connect it here. Then select Whomping Willow from the dropdown.
Change its position to x: 200, y:550
But we need to make sure it stays in place. Add the Object: pin block. Change pin to freeze. And all to Whomping Willow.
Let’s make the Whomping Willow smaller. Grab the Object: grow block. Change grow to set and 100 to 80. The new code should now look like this:
Now, lets add some collision code. From the Events tray grab this block.
Then change the first all to Ford Anglia and the second all to Whomping Willow.
Time for some sound. Click Add Parts, and add a Speaker.
Grab the Speaker: play block and connect it here. And add a sound. We think the Crunch 3 sound works really well. But there's loads of sounds to choose from.
So, what we've done here is say: When the Ford Anglia collides with the Whomping Willow play the Crunch 3 sound.
Now, it‘s time to wave your coding wand around. See what happens when the Ford Anglia hits the Whomping Willow!
Don't forget to save your new creation to Kano World. What more could you add to make this creation even better?
We hope you enjoyed that. There's so much you can do with all the objects, sounds, spell motions, and more with the Harry Potter Kano Coding Kit. Please let us know if you have any ideas for projects you'd like to share with the Kano community.
